Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens

This museum is included as they have two cars on display of great interest to the North East. Nissan Motor Co of Japan had a long standing partnership with Austin Motor Co. in Britain. When Nissan decided to build cars in Europe they chose Sunderland as their base for Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. The area was formerly famed for its shipbuilding and has adapted well to motor manufacturing. On show in the History section of the Science & Industry part of the Museum are the first Nissan Bluebird 2.0 GSX to come off the production line in 1986. The other car is a 3 door Nissan Micra 1.2 25 Special Edition made in 2009 this is declared off road for road tax purposes. The Micra can be seen at the Regional Museum Store in the grounds of Beamish Museum alongside a Doxford Oil Marine engine.
