National Museum of Wales
The National Museum of Wales transport collections includes the Museum's oldest surviving Welsh-owned car, a 1900 Benz motor car which is on display at the National Waterfront Museum , Swansea.
The rest of the collection, which includes examples of the Gilbern, the only car made in Wales, is stored at the National Collections Centre, Nantgarw. Vehicles include a 1929 Chevrolet Mobile Shop, a 1959 Daimler Majestic, a ZECAR prototype electric car, a Ford Thames Mine Rescue vehicle and a Cardiff Corporation Crossley double decker bus.One of the Gilberns has a Ford V6 engine and was one of the last to be built.
Visitors wishing to see the transport collections at the National Collections Centre will need to make an appointment beforehand and they can do this by telephone on 02920 573560 or via their website
