A new 4 wheel drive on the horizon

Ineos Automotive isn’t a name that comes to mind when you think of 4 wheel drive vehicles. This is a new concept from a company which is big in the energy and technology markets.

Jim Ratcliffe, their Chairman, said “whilst our off roader may share the spirit of the well loved Land Rover Defender, our new car will be a major improvement on previous models.”

Following a 6 month feasibility study Ineos has now confirmed its plans. Dick Heilmann, Chief Executive of Ineos Automotive said “this is an amazing project for everyone involved. Our job is to create the world’s best 4 x 4 and we are already moving forward with our plans.”

These plans include recruitment of a team of automotive experts, deciding where the 4 x 4 will be built and whilst a preference for Northern England has been expressed all options are open at this stage.

Ineos expect to have 4 x 4’s coming off their production line by 2020.

Meanwhile, back in Jaguar Land Rover land they plan to launch their new Defender 4 x 4 model in 2019.

Interesting times ahead for 4 x 4’s
